This introductory level course is for policy makers, funders, community members, practitioners, and anyone interested in learning more about how to make affordable homeownership opportunities last for generations. More and more, communities are seeking policies that do more with less, balance individual benefits with community benefits, impact the racial homeownership gap, and make a dent in their affordable housing needs. This four-session course will help participants make the case for shared equity homeownership (SEH) in their local context, consider critical issues like racial equity and inclusion, identify the most common SEH models, and understand the local housing ecosystem necessary for success.
While this course may be of interest to practitioners, it is designed to serve as an introduction to the broad concept of shared equity homeownership. Course sessions will include presentation, small group discussion and time for focused question and answer. We will cite studies and provide resources for participants to learn more in independent follow-up.
