Dave Smith is Chief Program Officer for Grounded Solutions Network, responsible for ensuring and monitoring that we meet our goal of building or preserving one million homes with lasting affordability over the next 10 years.
For more than 15 years, Dave has worked in affordable housing and community organizing, starting his career as a community organizer in the east end of London, England. From there, Dave went on to set up the UK’s first urban Community Land Trust – London CLT. As founding Executive Director, he built homes that preserved £9.45m ($11.47m) in permanent housing subsidy in the first instance, which is worth some £12.3m ($15m) today. He has since worked for the National Housing Federation, in the co-op movement, and led technical assistance and resident engagement program redesigns at an affordable housing landlord with over 15,000 homes.
Dave is a graduate of both Cambridge University and University College London, where he studied for a bachelor’s degree in Social & Political Science and a master’s degree in Housing & City Planning respectively. He holds a qualification in Management from Harvard Business School, is a member of the Academy of Urbanism, and is based in both London and Washington D.C.
